New technology could help to stop surgical implant infection

DeBogy Molecular, a biotech company, says that its technology can change the surface of implants to prevent bacteria from growing and infecting procedures like knee or hip replacements. Infections are often the reason why people have to undergo repeat surgeries to fix problems with their hip or knee implants. Biotech startup has found a way for implants to repel bacteria. DeBogy Molecular, a biotech firm, is working on antimicrobial surfaces modification. This technology is designed to kill bacteria from surgical implants that could cause infection. Early lab tests on mice showed that this technology could eliminate what's called bacterial biofilm -- the colonies of microorganisms covering surgical implants' surfaces.
